Full Time

Faculty/Instructor - Nursing:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Each instructor is responsible to his/her Division Chair, Director, or Coordinator and then to the Vice-President of Instructional Services. This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:
1. Serve as content area expert and through appropriate pedagogical approaches, conduct safe, engaging, and effective learning activities which foster student achievement of the stated course, program, and institutional outcomes.
2. Prepare, organize and present instructional material at scheduled times and places in accordance with the College catalog descriptions, course syllabi and outlines, stated delivery mode (F2F, ITV, online), and class schedule.
3. Participate in activities necessary to obtain and/or maintain Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) approval and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accreditation.
4. Participate in preparation and implementation of clinical, lab, and simulation activities.
5. Prepare appropriate evaluation rubrics and documentation for student’s clinical, lab, simulation, and assignment participation and progress.
6. Provide tutoring and remediation activities to maintain and enhance student learning in accordance with TBON and ACEN recommendations.
7. Act as a formal representative of Vernon College and the Vernon College Nursing Programs in all interactions with clinical agencies.
8. Maintain/develop constructive relationships with current and potential clinical agencies.
9. Participate in normal program/discipline administrative and maintenance activities including curriculum development and review for continuous improvement of courses, disciplines, and programs to meet the needs of both on-site and distance education students.
10. Prepare syllabi containing Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved outcomes for each course taught and update them on an annual basis through an evaluation of student achievement and input from students, advisory committees, professional associations, and other external sources (ACGM, WECM, GIPWE, etc).
11. Maintain accurate records of program/discipline majors, student attendance, student progress, grade distributions, and equipment and supplies.
12. Maintain accurate records of applicable student retention, completion, graduation, licensure, placement, and transfer rates for program/discipline majors.
13. Maintain discipline and order during instructional activities.
14. Participate in professional development activities, conferences, workshops, etc. which enhance subject matter expertise and professional growth, and improves instructional
effectiveness. Communicate through appropriate channels (Division Chair, Director, Coordinator, Vice- President of Instructional Services, and the President) in relating dissatisfaction or making positive suggestions.
15. Maintain professional licensure in accordance with TBON Rules and Regulations.
16. Participate in policy making through service on task forces or committees as appointed or elected.
17. Cooperate with other VC personnel in improving and promoting the image of the program and the College through active participation in recruiting, public relations, and marketing activities.
18. Participate in the academic advising of students and other College initiatives aimed at increasing student success as measured by retention, completion, graduation, licensure, placement and transfer rates.
19. Participate in graduation, honors convocation, and special campus events.
20. Maintain scheduled office hours.
21. Organize and facilitate program advisory committee meetings where appropriate; work with the members of the committee to ensure that the program has adequate resources and a well-designed curriculum to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for employment.
22. Coordinate, with the Director of Library Services, the selection and maintenance of appropriate discipline/program specific library materials.
23. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the appropriate instructional administrator and the College President.
24. Along with these duties and responsibilities, the instructor has the authority to do the following (non-evaluation items):
A. Suspend a student for one class period for disruptive behavior.
B. Evaluate the progress and performance of the student and assign grades.
C. Enforce the College’s policies and procedures and the safety regulations of the discipline/program.
E. Recommend a student for counseling.
F. Initiate requisitions and work order requests.
G. Suspend unsafe operations.

Travel: Wichita Falls and Vernon

Experience and Training: Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in Texas. Minimum of three years experience in a clinical setting.

Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing or an Associate's degree in nursing with completion of Bachelor's degree within five years. Current LVNs may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively. Current CPR certification. Flexibility with hours. Computer skills including use of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to promote an effective learning environment for students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. 

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in nursing and two years teaching experience. Three years medical/surgical and/or long-term care preferred. 

Minimum Educational Qualifications: Associate's degree in nursing with completion of Bachelor's degree within five years. Current LVNs may be considered.

Maximum Educational Qualifications: Master's Degree in Nursing

Salary or Salary Range: This is a full time 12 month instructor position with full time benefits. The salary is based on the Faculty Salary schedule. The salary is $51,384 as an LVN with three years of experience to $56,316 as a BSN with five years of experience. The salary is based on education and experience. High School Health Sciences Instructor:

Duties and Responsibilities: The Health Sciences Instructor is directly responsible to the Coordinator of CE-Allied Health and the Director of the CNA program (if applicable). This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

1. Presenting prepared materials, supervising organized laboratory or shop activities, recording student progress, and assuring the presence of adequate supplies and equipment to conduct learning experiences in a safe and effective manner.

2. Organizing and presenting instructional material at scheduled times and places in accordance with the College catalog descriptions, course syllabi and outlines, and class schedules.

3. To coordinate with administrators and other faculty at the high schools and to meet all scheduling and grading requirements of teachers in the system.

4. To work with Tech Prep and VC representatives to encourage the transition of high school students into the LVN program.

5. Preparing a syllabus containing specific learner outcomes for each course taught and updating them on an annual basis through evaluation of outcomes, and input from students, advisory committees, professional associations, and other external sources.

6. Maintaining records of attendance, student progress, supplies, equipment, coop students, and grade distributions.

7. Maintaining records of student retention rates, student job placement rates, student graduation rates, and student transfer rates for program/discipline majors.

8. Maintaining discipline and order during instructional activities.

9. Participating in staff development activities, conferences, workshops, etc. which focus on his/her subject matter, professional growth, and the improvement of instruction.

10.Participating in normal program/discipline administrative and maintenance activities.

11.Communicating through appropriate channels (Coordinator of CE-Allied Health, Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Instructional Services, and the President) in relating dissatisfaction or making positive suggestions.

C. Enforce the College's policies and procedures and the safety regulations of the discipline/program.

17. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the appropriate instructional administrator and the College President.

Experience and Training: Must be an LVN or RN for 2 years. Have 1 year of nursing experience in long term care/hospice, or home health caring for nursing home residents. Proficient in technical nursing skills.

Education: Current LVN or RN Licensure in good standing with BON

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Detail/task oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students. Ability to foster and grow partnerships with external stakeholders. Commitment to concepts of responsibility, accountability, and continuous program improvement.  

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience preferred.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: LVN with a minimum of 1 year experience in long-term facility/Hospice.

Maximum Educational Qualifications: RN with a minimum of 1 year experience in long-term facility/Hospice.

Salary or Salary Range: This is full time 10 month position with full time benefits. This position follows the time off schedule of Electra High School. The salary for this position is based on the Vernon College faculty schedule. The salary is $42,182 to $46,931 based on experience and education. The Grounds Technician is responsible to the Supervisors of Grounds. This is a security sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

1. To perform activities necessary to the maintenance of grounds and related equipment of the College.

2. To assist in routine maintenance and repair of grounds related power tools and mowers.

3. To assist in the maintenance of all landscaped areas of the physical plant.

4. To assist in the trimming and watering of all trees, shrubbery, flower beds, grass, etc.

5. To assist in maintaining the cleanliness of all walkways and parking areas.

6. To assist in the general maintenance and operation of all areas of the physical plant upon assignment.

7. To assist in setting up for special programs.

8. To be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

9. To assist in the maintenance of water lines/sprinkler systems on campus.

10. To assist in the installation of new water lines/sprinkler systems.

11. To assume special assignments by the Supervisor of Grounds or the Director of Physical Plant.

Experience and Training: Verifiable experience performing routine maintenance of grounds and related equipment.

Education: High School Diploma

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of lawn equipment maintenance and use, knowledge of general landscaping, experience with sprinkler system a plus, ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications: 2 years verifiable experience.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: GED

The Maintenance Specialist is responsible to the Supervisor of Maintenance. This is a security sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

1. Assist the Supervisor of Maintenance in conducting preventive maintenance to all mechanical and electrical equipment on the Vernon campus.

2. Assist the Supervisor of maintenance in maintaining a stock of parts and supplies.

3. Assist in repairs and remodeling endeavors. This may require painting, carpentry, and minor touch up.

4. Assist the Supervisor of Maintenance in all plumbing repairs essential to proper facility function.

5. Maintain the College swimming pool. a. Clean (vacuum) as needed. b. Test water for chemical balance c. Maintain circulation and automatic chemical feeder, adjusting as needed. d. Maintain maintenance records on pool.

6. Test and change ballasts in light fixtures as needed.

7. Basic trouble shooting on HVAC systems. a. Use refrigerant gauges. b. Use multi-meters.

8. Operate a computer controlled HVAC system.

9. Assist in maintaining and servicing the college’s fleet of vehicles.

10. Maintain all tools and equipment in good repair and working condition.

11. Respond to work orders in a timely and courteous manner.

12. Assist in preparing campus facilities for major functions such as commencements, community service projects, etc.

13. Responsible for shredding confidential documents as needed.

14. Be able to lift minimum of 50 pounds.

Skills Required:

1. Knowledge of voltages: a. AC – 120, 230, 277, 440, single and 3 phase. b. DC – 12, 24.

2. Knowledge in use of multi-meters - AC/DC amperage continuity.

3. Knowledge in use of refrigerant and gauges.

4. Basic computer skills required to operate software programs that operate HVAC systems.

5. Soldering skills required to solder small (½”, ¾”) copper pipe and electrical wire.

Experience and Training: Two years experience in general maintenance of facilities to include use and repair of equipment.

Education: High School diploma or GED required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General carpentry and painting, ability to safely operate power tools and equipment including forklift, backhoe and skidsteer. Be a self starter who can work unsupervised and in coordination with others.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years experience.

Salary or Salary Range: This is a full time 12 month position with full time benefits. The salary for this position is based on 210 points on the Administrative Salary Schedule. ADA Testing Specialist

The ADA Accommodations & Testing Coordinator is responsible to the Director of the PASS Department and the Vice-President of Instructional Services. This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

  1. Coordinate all ADA & Quiet Testing exams. Review student requests for testing appointments and ensure exams are received and administered with integrity and efficiency.
  2. Monitor student attendance during scheduled exams and enforce ADA Testing Center policies throughout exam administration.
  3. Provide written and oral instructions for exams, as well as oral administration when appropriate. Coordinate additional proctors and oral administrators as needed.
  4. Work closely with faculty to schedule and administer ADA exams. Contact faculty to collect physical exams, confirm testing instructions and exam formats, materials allowed, and return of completed exams.
  5. Assume primary responsibility for management of ADA testing records. Maintain confidential testing records at all times, including the Quiet Testing schedule.
  6. Collect and analyze data to identify trends in usage, needs, and challenges in ADA testing and proctoring.
  7. Troubleshoot both physical and digital accessibility issues that arise during exam administration. Work closely with technical support specialists to maintain Vernon College ADA Testing Center devices.
  8. Maintain flexible work hours to accommodate the ADA Testing Center needs.
  9. Act as Note Taking Coordinator for qualified and documented ADA Students who request note taking services.
  10. Coordinate meetings with CCC ADA students to sign for accommodations at the beginning of each semester. Assist the Director of the PASS Department with open registration at the CCC location.
  11. Assist the Director of the PASS Department with the coordination of interpreting and CART services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  12. 12.  Assist with and serve as a proctor for general instructional testing if it fits into the testing schedule.
  13. Assist with the training of faculty and staff regarding communicating with and understanding students with disabilities.
  14. Assist with the New Beginnings program as needed.
  15. To perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the PASS Department, the Vice-President of Instructional Services, and/or the College President.

Travel Required: As needed

Experience and Training: Experience in disabilities services, accommodations, or testing administration preferred. Familiarity with ADA(Americans with Disabilities Act) and Section 504 compliance. Experience working in a testing Center setting preferred.

Education: Associate's Degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of ADA, Section 504, and other disability-related laws. Knowledge of various disabilities and their impact on test-taking. Proficiency in test administration and proctoring procedures. Ability to use assistive technology and accessible testing formats. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain records and handle confidential information. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work with students, faculty and staff to ensure proper accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in testing administration or accessibility services.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: High School Diploma, Associate's Degree preferred.

Salary or Salary Range: This is a full time 12 month position with full time benefits. This position is listed as a Classified III position on the Classified Salary schedule. The Assistant Volleyball Coach/Residence Hall Assistant reports to the Head Volleyball Coach, the Director of Housing, and the Dean of Student Services/Athletic Director for appropriate functions. This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

Volleyball Functions:

1. To assist the Head Volleyball Coach in the development and organization of an intercollegiate volleyball program.

2. To assist the Head Volleyball Coach in maintaining the College volleyball court.

3. To assist the Head Volleyball Coach in gaining community and area support for the volleyball program.

4. To assist the Head Volleyball Coach in the promotion of responsible character development and mature behavior among the students who are accepted into the program.

5. To assist the Head Volleyball Coach and Director of Student Relations in recruiting activities.

6. To transport team members to and from events in large vans or busses. This will require a valid Class C Driver’s License with passenger endorsement.

7. To function as a team member of the Department of Athletics and in the Division of Student Services in the development and implementation of processes necessary to accomplish the goals and philosophy of the division and the College.

8. To assume special responsibilities on assignment by the Head Volleyball Coach, the Dean of Student Services, and/or the President.

Housing Function:

1. To perform all functions necessary to the orderly function of the Student Residence Center which includes but is not limited to performing “check-in’s” and “check-out’s”, report conduct infractions to Dean of Student Services/Athletic Director, and make daily delivery of incoming mail to residents.

2. To ensure that resident students maintain an orderly environment and proper decorum. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to provide the example essential to an orderly environment.

3. To assist in activities and special event programming for campus and resident students.

4. To provide counsel as needed to resident students.

5. To safeguard the College’s investment by carefully monitoring the physical condition of the unit. This will include inspection of each room.

6. Available to resident students and informs the Director of Housing of non-availability. Is “on-call” for a regularly scheduled day/night period each week.

7. To assume special responsibility on assignment by the Director of Housing, Dean of Student Services/Athletic Director, and/or the President.

Travel Required: Traveling to games and recruiting.

Experience and Training: Playing experience in intercollegiate volleyball and student residence hall experience preferred.

Education: Associate's degree required with a Bachelor's degree preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ability to attain a Class C driver's license with passenger endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of two years playing experience and the desire to work as a coach in the future as a career.

PART-TIME CULINARY ARTS INSTRUCTOR

Vernon College is seeking a part-time Culinary instructor to teach the Vernon College Culinary Academy program. This is an hourly position. Qualified applicants must have at least 5 years of experience in restaurant management, cooking, and baking.  Applicant must be a Servsafe instructor, or willing to become Servesafe certified prior to the start of the Culinary/Hospitality program.  Applicants must be comfortable creating and executing lesson plans, teaching adults, and recruiting students. Formal Culinary training is preferred.

Description of Duties: Skills lab instructors are responsible for assisting in the education of entry-level EMTs, AEMT & Paramedic students. Skills include advanced airway placement, IV start, and drug administration. Subcutaneous and intra muscular injections. Spinal mobile restriction, hemorrhage control, and shock management. Simple airway adjuncts and airway techniques.

Travel Required: No

Experience and Training: Applicant must hold current and valid certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services for emergency medical services or currently Licensed as a Registered Nurse with emergency or Critical care experience. Registered Respiratory Therapists are also considered for certain course materials.
